Baghdad, Iraq — May 20, 2024 — My participation in "The Candles of Khidir" art exhibition, a part of the "Beloved: Symbolic Reparations for the Disappeared" project organized by Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT). This exhibition features the work of 20 artists and writers, who aim to provide symbolic reparations for the families of missing persons through storytelling and artistic expression.

"The Candles of Khidir" refers to a traditional ritual practiced by Iraqi women, where candles are lit on a piece of wood and set adrift on a river with heartfelt wishes for the safe return of their loved ones. This exhibition brings this poignant tradition to life through various artistic mediums.

Two of my Artworks in the Art Exhibition:
First Artwork: "A Poet Without a Diwan"
This piece is inspired by the story of Someone, who disappeared 30 years ago. The painting captures the moment of his disappearance and the enduring grief felt by those who loved him. The artwork reflects the sorrow and longing that lingered for decades, represented by a cold breeze that chills the heart and a fire that glows under the ashes.

Second Artwork: "Train of Sorrows"
This painting depicts the life of a missing person from birth to their disappearance and murder. Accompanied by a narrative titled "Train of Sorrows," the artwork portrays the intense emotional turmoil experienced by loved ones left behind. It shows a woman trying to extinguish the fire in her chest, symbolizing the unending grief and anguish that consumes her.

I am proud to share that my artworks won second place at this event
